This is a feature written by Stephen Wells for the Philadelphia Weekly in 2006 when he first got diagnosed with cancer. It’s very funny and also horrific. It’s 10 pages, which I know is a bit long for internet, but you can do it.
It’s also worth reading his final article for the same paper, which is much shorter but contains (a) a spectacularly apt final line, given one of the other famous deaths on June 25th 09, and (b) comments on the article from almost every NME journalist of note from the last 30 years. And Conor McNicholas (ba-dum tish).
Anyway, very sad. I hadn’t realised he was ill. Cancer sounds really fucking horrible.
